Artur Rosa was born in 1964, in Portugal. He's married, one son and lives near the sea. He graduated in Electronics & Telecomunications in 1988 and he has worked in IT since,
in an industrial multinational corporation.
Artur was a fan of comic books throughout his childhood and teenage years. He started with DC and Marvel and slowly began shifting to european style comics, like Bilal,
Moebius, Segrelles, etc. Influenced by this environment, he tried when he was about 20 to capture in paper and pencil some of the images that were wandering in his mind.
After creating about 30 images of a somewhat surrealistic genre, he stopped, only to restart 22 years later, in late 2006, partially motivated by the landscapes of SimCity,
the city simulation game he was strongly addicted to during several months.
During these 22 years of absence from image creation, the computers had dramatically evolved and so, instead of using pencil and paper to create more images,
he tried the computer. After some attempts with various tools, he stumbled upon some images on the internet made with Vue. He was fascinated. He tried Vue and
was immediately addicted.
Artur has no artistic academic background. He learned what he knows today by self-teaching, analysing other people's images and carefully reading comments from
others on his images. Possibly because of this lack of academic background, he doesn't see himself as an artist, but rather as an "image creator".
His favorite genres are landscape, scifi, surrealism and fantasy. He likes to view his images as frames from a story, trying to make the viewers imagine the
story behind and think of what happened before and what will happen after that single moment in time that the image captured. Most of his images are born from
words that he hears or reads somewhere, or from concepts that suddenly spring to his mind. Some are born from
previous images, as he likes to think that one image always contains seeds for more images.
During the first two years of playing with Vue, Artur created more than 250 images. Almost 40 of these images were awarded "Picture of the Day" at e-on's
site (www.e-onsoftware.com). Artur entered e-on's annual "Environment Competition" and was one of the 12 finalists. Two of his images were used as box covers
for some of Vue 7 product lines (Vue 7 Pioneer and Vue 7 Esprit) and several others were used in various newsletters and promotional banners, both from e-on and Cornucopia3D.
Online, Artur can be found at www.renderosity.com, under the alias Rutra.
